Why Douche Waffles Get Elected?  | Direct TV Parody Compilation

Originally posted at AcronymTV

The full campaign spoofing the Direct TV commercials, produced by Acronym TV for Move To Amend. All six spots, each about 30 seconds, are included here in this single video.

Written by Lee Camp and Dennis Trainor, Jr, and Directed by Trainor, these spots aim to hijack a popular meme to shine a seriously unserious light on the issues of corporate personhood and money as free speech.

Move to Amend is a coalition of hundreds of organizations and tens of thousands of individuals committed to social and economic justice, ending corporate rule, and building a vibrant democracy that is genuinely accountable to the people, not corporate interests.

We are calling for an amendment to the US Constitution to unequivocally state that inalienable rights belong to human beings only, and that money is not a form of protected free speech under the First Amendment and can be regulated in political campaigns.
Over 300,00 people have signed the Move To Amend statement that states:

"We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling and other related cases, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights."

Links to each video as a stand-alone piece are below. We encourage you to share these far and wide.

Citizens United and My Cassandra Complex

I made this video prior to the Citizens United vs FEC hearing.
Nobody cared then.

Now that everything is completely fucked up, people are asking, "why is everything so completely fucked up? How did we get here?"

Here's your answer:

Bernie Sanders offers Constitutional Amendment to ban Corporate Personhood

Sen. Bernie Sanders on Thursday proposed a constitutional amendment to overturn a Supreme Court ruling that allowed unrestricted and secret campaign spending by corporations on U.S. elections. The first constitutional amendment ever proposed by Sanders during his two decades in Congress would reverse the narrow 5-to-4 ruling in Citizens United vs. the Federal Elections Commission.

OWS is winning: Los Angeles calls on DC to end Corporate Personhood

h/t to Lauren Minis

I just hope that as people start TALKING like populists, that they start ACTING like populists, and that the movement CONTINUES to hold them accountable and call them on their bullshit.

I feel like the idea that this movement is going to take 30 years to acheive our aims is both a good and bad one.

It's good, because it gives people permission to take a break and keep from getting burned out.
It's bad, because it also allows people to get lazy, and to accept half-loaves.

The revolutions in Czechoslovakia, Egypt, Tunisia, et al,; they took decades. Or it only took a week. Depends on how you look at it.

Nobody knows the point of revolution. Nobody knows where we actually are right now. We won't know where the movement is on the timeline of revolution until now becomes the past. So keep fighting like the revolution is tomorrow.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$

So I'm a little late to the table with this one, but I just learned about it now.

So first the context-- According to the Supreme Court, money is equal to free speech.

Public Citizen and the Story Of Stuff Project have teamed up today with a simple idea to protest this idea and get people thinking about how absurd that is:

Instead of using words, let's just use dollar signs to communicate!

People are visiting http://storyofstuff.org/dollarsordemocracy/ and reposting the following into their twitter feeds and facebook statuses:

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
http://bit.ly/DollarsOrDemocracy
#WeThePeople will #reclaim

Right now on twitter, the #WeThePeople & #Reclaim hashtags are trending worldwide!

It's genius. It doesn't actually SAY anything. Which I guess is really the point. Money isn't speech.

While this is a form of slacktivism, my hope is that it's a big first step for a lot of people who are only marginally aware of the issue.

CA Gubernatorial Candidate arrested at NBC Debates

I've been here before. NBC excluded a candidate that I had worked for during the Democratic Party primaries in Nevada and New Hampshire, etc, even though he had met the requirements for entering the debate. A local court decided that Dennis Kucinich must be let into the debate, but then a federal appeals court decided that it was the "1st amendment rights of a corporate broadcasting entity to exclude or include whomever they wanted in the debates."

I can tell you this with utmost certainty-- the corporate media distorts elections, makes up the rules as they go, and the debates they host are a complete and total sham.

Just yesterday Green Party candidate for Governor, Laura Wells was arrested at a debate she was excluded from. According to my sources, Laura Wells was peacfully and quietly on her way to be seated in attendance of the debate when security arrested and escorted her off the premises for "tresspassing."

She had every right to be there- as she had tickets to attend the debate.
What was the real excuse for kicking her out? Laura Wells was arrested for "tresspassing on private property" a tactic used to kick Ralph Nader off the premises during his exclusion of the 2000 presidential debates-- despite the fact that he ALSO had a ticket. Not that he was there to debate- the Corporate Media didn't even let them WATCH the debate. As though their very presence would somehow taint their two-corporate-party lovefest.

NBC's story doesn't quite match up with what actually happened, excluding as many facts as they can to hide how bad they were and distort what actually happened. NBC reports she was arrested while protesting her exclusion, and makes sure to justify it by saying that "The Green Party is not a factor in this race, according to all polls."

Really? And yet the Green Party is also simultaneously such a threat that you have to arrest their Gubernatorial candidate simply for attending the debate- with a legitimate ticket, and a legitimate reason to be there? Make up your mind! Which is it?

Is the Green Party a factor or not?

Then as if to justify their exclusionary tactics, NBC follows up with this: "Polls show Brown, the current attorney general and former governor and former eBay CEO Meg Whitman in a dead heat."

Again-- Make up your mind! Which is it? Is the Green Party a factor or not? If they aren't a factor, they clearly would not have any bearing on the dead heat that this race is in, now would they? Unless they are a factor, in which case- LET THEM DEBATE.

Here's what actually happened:

REVOKE BP's CORPORATE CHARTER- ACTION

A CALL TO ACTION

So a lot of people were really excited by the call to revoke BP’s corporate charter.
Even though my last video only got a little 300 views, that has multiplied into almost one and a half thousand people joining the Revoke BP’s corporate charter page over on facebook within the past week! Awesome!

Many of you are asking, WHAT DO WE DO NOW?! I'm glad you are!

For starters, if you haven’t already, join the "Revoke BP's corporate charter" group, and spread that and the "Revoke BP's Corporate Chater" videos around to everybody you know.

Before we can make a significant impact, we need to grow and strengthen our numbers. Try reposting the “Revoke BP’s Corporate Charter” page on facebook to your wall once a day using the “Share” button.

Next, call or write your Representatives in Congress. This isn't going to do anything directly because they don’t have direct power to revoke BPs charter-- but it lets them know that their constituents are talking about this, and then since they like being re-elected, it increases the chances that THEY'LL talk about it too. While they don't actually have any power to revoke BP's charter, just by talking about it they can help put pressure on Delaware’s elected officials with even an off-the-cuff remark about revoking BP's corporate charter on Meet The Press or the evening news.

After that, go to Delaware.gov, and email the Governor, the heads of the state senate and house, and the Attorney General. Be nice. We need to convince these people to be our allies.

Also be mindful that we can’t just revoke a corporate charter because we don’t like a company. We have to illustrate the long criminal record that BP has as grounds for the revocation. Start doing research on any violations of the law, environmental or otherwise, that BP has been involved with up to and including this oil spill in the Gulf, and start sharing what you find, either in my video’s comment section, or over on my blog, or over on the Revoke BP’s corporate charter page. Or create a blog of your own dedicated just to what you find and compile-- and be sure to share it with everybody else!

For those that have contact pages, but no listed email, I made Bit.ly links. Capitalization is important!

Then tell your friends to do the same.

You know what would make all this a whole hell of a lot easier?
If we had some organization backing us, giving us access to sweet webtools that hooked us up with all this information automatically. If we could just send around a link to our friends that hooked them up with everything that they needed... that would be awesome.

Try contacting the following organizations and see if you can get a response from any of them:

For the first two, they have contact pages, so I made bit.lys for them. Capitalization is important!
